Governance & Policies

The Akron Public Art Program is administered by the Office of Integrated Development and governed by a Public Art Commission who steward the City’s investment on behalf of the people of Akron. The Public Art Commission only reviews public art being commissioned by the City, using City funds, or on public property.

The Administrative Guide was created and approved to communicate the policies and procedures involved in public art with the Akron community. To download the signed ordinance, click here.

Private businesses commissioning work for their property and using their own money do not fall under the purview of the City, but can find useful resources under “Developer Guidelines” in the Administrative Guide or by contacting Summit County’s local arts agency, ArtsNow.

Funding

The Public Art Program is funded through a Percent for Art TIF Share ordinance which requires all new ORC 5709.41 incentives to dedicate 1% of the City’s net TIF revenue to public art.
